Meet Michael A. Agresti

Michael A. Agresti graduated first in his class from Duquesne University School of Law in 1997.  He began his career with the international firm K&L Gates in Pittsburgh, working on complex commercial litigation for national and multi-jurisdictional clients.

In 2001, Michael and his wife, Helen, returned to Erie to raise their family, now five children. Michael joined his family’s law firm founded by his grandfather Joseph and uncle Richard and continued by his father Charles and cousin Thomas, all of whom were well-rounded and well-respected lawyers serving clients in multiple areas of the law. Working alongside them allowed Michael to build not only his technical skills, but also his understanding of how a lawyer should treat clients, opposing counsel, and the courts—with integrity, civility, and professionalism.

Rather than limit himself to a single area of law, Michael followed this tradition by developing a broad practice as both a litigator and transactional attorney, representing individuals, business owners, real estate developers, and  municipal entities throughout northwestern Pennsylvania.

In 2016, Michael joined Marsh Schaaf where he has continued to serve clients in matters involving commercial disputes, business formation and counseling, real estate transactions, partnership and shareholder disagreements, construction litigation, municipal matters, and personal injury claims, where he has represented both injured plaintiffs and defendant business owners  His broad background has enabled him to serve as “outside general counsel” for several Erie companies with ongoing legal needs.

Michael’s combined transactional and litigation experience forms the foundation of his alternative dispute resolution practice. He brings a practical, balanced perspective to mediation and arbitration. He understands the legal and factual issues that drive conflict, and also the business, personal, and economic realities that influence resolution.

Michael founded Agresti ADR to offer practical, efficient, and informed dispute-resolution services to attorneys and their clients throughout Pennsylvania and across the United States. His goal as a neutral is straightforward: to help parties move cases forward, reach resolution, and achieve closure with fairness and professionalism.

"I know what it’s like to have a file sit in the cabinet too long. My role as a neutral isn’t to second-guess lawyers — it’s to create momentum when the system stalls."
